What's New in This Run (June 2026 Update)
Our latest simulations reflect the updated Elo ratings.
Hosting the World Cup is a dream, but it comes with a unique pressure. For the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the 2026 tournament is about more than just participation; it's about making a deep run on home soil. But does home advantage translate to an easier path?
Our 1000 simulations of the tournament bracket reveal a mixed bag for the North American trio. While the draw structure guarantees them all top-seed status (Pot 1), the simulation data suggests their journeys will be anything but straightforward.
From a potential "North American Derby" to a haunting rematch of 2014, here is what the data predicts for the hosts.
πΊπΈ Team USA: Evolving Challenges
The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) faces a more defined path now that the group stages are clearer. With a guaranteed Round of 32 appearance, their destination centers around Match 81 against Bosnia and Herzegovina (66.5%).
The Deep Run Chances
- Chances of R32: 100.0%
- Chances of Quarter-Finals: 43.0%
- Chances of Winning it all: 0.1%
The USMNT remains a competitor, and their 43% chance to reach the Quarter-Finals is a huge boost for the home crowd.
π²π½ Mexico: Dominating the Azteca
Mexico's path is significantly more defined. As the top seed, El Tri is powerfully projected to win the group and anchor themselves early.
The Round of 32: Defending the Azteca (Match 79)
- Key Likely Opponents: Scotland (57.5%) or Ecuador (14.9%)
The simulation points to a deep clash with sturdy opposition for Mexico's first knockout game.
The Round of 16: A World Cup Classic?
If Mexico advances, the simulation predicts a colossal showdown in Mexico City (Match 92).
- Most Likely Matchup: England vs. Mexico (52.6%)
This is the blockbuster potential of Mexico's draw. Facing England in the Round of 16 would be one of the biggest matches of the entire tournament!
π¨π¦ Canada: The R32 Mainstay
Canada, hosting men's World Cup matches for the first time, continues to exceed expectations in our simulations. They make the R32 in a stellar 100.0% of runs!
The Round of 32 (Match 73)
- Most Likely Opponents: South Korea (45.2%)
The Round of 16: The European/South American Giants (Match 96 & 90)
- Most Likely Matchup: Canada vs. Colombia (22.1%) or Canada vs. Netherlands (11.4%)
If Canada can navigate their opening knockout round, they are heavily projected to land a date with Colombia or the Dutch.
Summary: The Likely Host Schedule
Based on the 1000 simulations, here is the "most probable" itinerary for the host nations:
| Stage | Date | Venue | πΊπΈ USA Journey | π²π½ Mexico Opponent | π¨π¦ Canada Opponent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R32 | July 1 | San Francisco / Mexico City / LA | Bosnia and Herzegovina | Scotland | South Korea |
| R16 | July 6 | Seattle / Mexico City / Houston | Belgium / Egypt | England | Colombia |

Previous Prediction History
The following is our May 2026 prediction. It has been archived below for reference.
Our May 2026 simulations reflected the updated Elo ratings heading into the summer of 2026. The data showed a slight shift in fortunes for the hosts. The USA struggled slightly more (making the finals only 8 times out of 1000, 0.8%), while Mexico and Canada maintained exceptionally strong Round of 32 appearances (over 93% each). Canada also stepped into a highly likely matchup against the Netherlands in the Round of 16. The USMNT faced an unpredictable path with R32 chances at 57.9% and QF chances at 8.7%.
The following is our original February 2026 prediction. It has been archived below for reference.
Our 1000 simulations of the tournament bracket reveal a mixed bag for the North American trio. The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) enters Group D as the favorite, and the simulation backs this up. The data overwhelmingly points to the USA winning their group and advancing to the Round of 32 in San Francisco Bay Area (Match 81), potentially to face Qatar (15.6%) or even Canada (9.9%). The USA's Round of 16 was heavily projected as a matchup against Belgium (25.4%). Mexico was 15.2% likely to face England, and Canada faced South Korea 15.8% of the time, all of which provided an interesting baseline before today's updates.
